A what if reader betrayed friends on the Hoth base...since we had Luke join the dark side, ha ha ha....

 Star Wars (c) LucasFilm
 You (c) yourself

You sighed. You were dusting off the windshield on the airspeeder, preparing for flight. You glanced around nervously, hoping that nobody had seen that your friend was absent with you. Usually, the airspeeders had been supported with two pilots, one for mostly the flying and the other the gunner. While there had been some that went solo, you knew you were assigned with your friend, whom you hoped was still knocked out in your room.

You carefully patted off the rest of the snow on it and opened the hatch. You prepared to hop in when you felt someone pat you on the back. You winced and gulped, slowly turning around to see who it was.

 Oh. Luke.

"Are you ok?" Luke asked, rubbing his hand on your back now. "You seem a bit nervous."

You shook your head. "Nah, I'm fine. Don't worry about me, Luke. I'm ok. Seriously."

"You seemed a bit jumpy at Leia's briefing," Luke said. "It was like...you were a jittering mess."

"It's nothing," you said. "I just...I'm a bit excited and nervous about this. I mean, we totally kicked the Empire's butt with the Death Star but...I don't think they're going to go easy on us."

"As long as you do your best, you'll be fine," Luke said. "I've got your back. Don't worry. I'm sure you'll do great. Where's your friend? Isn't she supposed to be your gunner?"

"She's on her way," you lied. "I think she forgot a few stuff from our room. She should be coming soon."

He nodded. "Ok. Just don't take too long ok? I'll be seeing you up in the skies. Good luck!" He ruffled his hand through your hair and took off to his own snowspeeder.

You gulped and silently prayed that he wouldn't find you anywhere on the radar. You didn't want him to get into the crossfire. As much as you had to, you for sure weren't going to accept that.

You turned to look at him one last time.

He was happily talking to his gunner, Dak, chatting about kicking the Empire's butt once again. If only he knew the trouble he would be in now...if only they knew the trouble his friends would be in...

If only he knew what you were hiding...

The questions he would ask as well. Why would you do this? What kind of friend are you? Everything I taught you about flying your airspeeder...about riding on your TaunTaun....being your friend...only for you to do this to me?

A tear slipped down your cheek. Luke...I'm sorry...

You remembered the way his face was upon telling about your mission.

After you had escaped from the Empire during a mission on Sullust, you couldn't help but still picture the way your comrades had fallen, how they captured you next, demanding that you tell me where the base was. The ways you comrades got tortured when you refused...the terrors you saw...Luckily, you escaped...but you couldn't escape the dreaded memories of your comrades falling. They were plucked off as if they were flowers. All just cut off. You couldn't erase that from your mind.

It was a good thing your friend was around to comfort you along with other comrades and the leaders. Leia had told you if you ever wanted to talk as well, she was there for you. Even Han offered his friendship, telling you that if you had something on your mind, you could tell him. Everyone offered a little piece of comfort to you, wanting to make sure you were ok.

You only felt bad though that Luke sort of blamed himself for what happened to you. He had heard about the mission you were going to take and offered to go along with you. Leia, though, told him that he had duties to attend here. You would be fine on your own with the rest of your comrades. However, now that you came back wounded and scared, you saw it in his face all the regret for not pushing Leia enough to make him go with you. If only maybe he had gone, would of you then been more safe?

It was also weird that a number of strange occurrences happened. The generators had been malfunctioning, the secret passage way to the base wasn't working and for some odd reason, Han's power cables for the Millennium Falcon were missing.

Weird as it was, everyone turned to their duties as told and put this aside. The Empire hadn't taken word of where their base was...until now.

You watched the rest of the pilots hop on board into their airspeeders, ready for take off. You then jumped into yours and dashed off, hoping that the result would come out as you expected.

"This is green leader, standing by, taking on incoming Walker," Wedge said into the com.

You took a deep breath as you danced in the sky with your comrades, trying to find a weakness in the AT-AT Walker's armor. Obviously, just by blasting away, the armor took no damage from the blasts. The only way now to defeat them would be by tripping the legs with the harpoon rope.

So far, one fell down and was already blasted into smithereens. It was now trying to get rid of the rest of them.

You played your part as you told them you would, pretending to blast at the Walker, following your comrades in shooting the next harpoon out. You eyed one of the pilots circling around the walker, hinting to prepare the shoot.

"This is blue leader, I'm going to try to shoot one in," one of the pilots said.

You sighed as you tumbled the airspeeder back into the sky again. "This is (f/c) comrade," you said. "I'll be following as your back up." You followed him right behind, "covering" his back.

"Steady, steady," you heard his gunner said, aiming for the legs.

The harpoon then lashed out and attached to the legs. "Got it in!" the gunner said.

"Bringing her around," the pilot said, maneuvering the airspeeder around the walker.

Carefully, you lifted up a cap on a button. You glanced at the button, knowing what it would do. It was a new installment you had featured into your airspeeder. Thankfully as well, no one had took notice on the installment. It was hidden beneath the harpoon, so it was a good hiding place but still, one more extra look and you would be done for. Luckily as well, your friend never even glanced at the item. And thank goodness, the base was sort of dark...hiding its shiny razor tip...

You shook your head and pressed onto the button. The airspeeder whirled around, the aim reaching towards the harpoon ropes. A razor harpoon slashed through the ropes, cutting them off of the walker's legs, freeing it. The Walker kicked through the ropes, a tilt of the head to laugh at the pilots' attempt.

"Did you see that?!" the gunner roared. "The cables...they disconnected."

"How did that happen?" the pilot inquired.

"I don't know. I'm trying again. (F/c) comrade, you behind me?"

"Right behind," you said. "I'll be keeping an eye out."

But again though, did the gunner reached for the legs and the ropes were cut apart.

"I don't understand," the gunner said. "That was our last shot. How could they have disconnected? You sure you didn't see anything in the sky, (f/c) comrade?"

"Negative," you lied. "Even on my radar, there's an all clear. This is sort of freaking me out."

"Tell me about it," the pilot said. "I'm heading back. Anyone else want to give it a try?"

You gulped as you took another turn, heading straight for the walker. You then clipped onto another button, sending out a message to the walker. "This is beta comrade. I'm heading in. The one in front."

The walker's head glanced up to look at you. You then knew they would understand what this would mean.

 "(Y/n)!"

 You gasped. Oh no...

 "Something wrong?" you asked.

"You're heading straight for the walker, turn around or it'll blast you," Luke said. He was right behind you, speeding up.

You "attempted" to roll away from the walker but surprisingly, your airspeeder was "malfunctioning". "I can't," you muttered. "Something's wrong...the controls...they're not..." You played along with the controller, acting like the you couldn't maintain your airspeeder. "It won't let me move. I'm trying...I don't know what's..."

“General Veers, ready to make attack,” your earpiece whispered.

 It was now time.

You pressed another button, releasing a fire burst out of your engines, making it look like the walker hit you. The walker even blasted out a couple of rays at you, “shooting” you down.

You screamed as you let the controls fall down, diving toward the snowy landscape.

You smashed down the communicators on your controls, acting like you had lost contact.

“(Y/n)!” you heard a voice crack through the com.

The airspeeder behind you rushed down to your aid. It however then rocketed up to the sky again, turning straight around.

 “Luke, no!”

 “Dak, she’s been hit!”

“I know, buddy, but we’ll be too if we don’t watch it. I’m sorry to say, but she’s a goner.”

You could hear Luke grunt, upset over your defeat.

You then quickly turned on your snow movers, letting the airspeeder tumble into the snow, but steadily wipe it away, making your “crash” safe as possible.

You touched your earpiece. “Boys took the bait,” you said. “Waiting by foot.”

“Roger that. Commander is on his way to see you. You better be right about this, rebel scum.”

You clenched your teeth. “I’ll be sure you’ll be eating your words, buckethead.” You then tore away your earpiece and hopped out of the hatch.

You could see a few feet away from you, a ship landing nearby. It was the Imperial fleet. A ship designed to hold the best of the Empire’s leaders. And it was one leader you’ll be seeing right now.

The ship's hatch opened up and two Snowtrooper came out. You walked over to them, with arms crossed, your foot tapping impatiently. If they had so wanted everything for this plan to come out right, they'd better be prepared to hurry up. You had done most of your parts. Now though, they had to complete theirs.

"I would likely ask of you to be patient, rebel scum," one of the Snowtroopers said. "Our lord wants this to be perfect as possible as well. Provided that your job..."

“I have done my job,” you snapped. “Now it’s time for you to fill up the end of the bargain.”

It was then that Darth Vader joined the Snowtroopers, glaring at you. “I trust that the pilots had token your fall as believable?” he asked, nodding at your airspeeder.

You nodded. “Each of them believed that I had fallen at the defeat of a walker blasting me down. Now, if you would follow me, I would gladly take you to the ones who had planned for your beloved Death Star to crumble. You would get your revenge as you wished.”

“And everything is as according to what you had done?” Vader inquired.

You waved your hand toward the base. “As all done, Lord Vader. Can I explain as we walk toward the secret passage to it?”

 “As we may,” Vader said.

He then followed you with the Snowtroopers, heading over to the secret passage to Echo base.

“I have disabled Han’s Millennium Falcon power cables,” you explained. “He won’t be taking off any time with those missing. And the generators should be turning off in three…two…one…”

Someone from the battlefield hollered out. Everyone was screaming. The power was out.

You turned to Vader, satisfied. “There’s no way they won’t be plugging them back up either. Not without the switch. I made sure that got destroyed and buried away in the trash.”

“Excellent work,” Vader said. “And this passage…”

“Only opened to me now since it oh-so ‘malfunctioned’ and now every technician is wondering why. With a trick of this key…” You stood in front of the secret passage’s door. You tapped away at the keys and it opened up. “…will it open.”

You grinned a bit, smiling at Vader. Vader, however, showed no interest. You weren’t sure if whether he was really happy or emotionless due to his mask.

“And now, the end of your bargain,” Vader said, motioning with his hand toward the door. “Lead us to the ones responsible.”

You walked inside. “As you wish, Lord Vader.”

“Chewie, hurry up in there!” Han shouted at the Wookie, heading inside the ship. With the generators out now, everyone was struggling to run away from the base. Even (friend's name) had barely woken up, confused by all the chaos, questioning where (y/n) had gone (to which everyone stared at her and asked why (y/n) had taken off without you). C3PO hurried over inside the Millennium Falcon with Leia. However, it appeared to be that the ship was missing an important piece to power it up.

 The Wookie growled.

“What do you mean, it’s missing still?” Han snapped, heading over to Chewie. Chewie pointed at the opened hatch. Where the power cable was, it was gone.

“Where could it have gone? How could it have disappeared?” Han hollered. The Wookie shrugged.

“Forget it! We gotta go!” Han growled, grabbing Chewie by the shoulders and heading down to the ship’s controls.

C3PO and Leia stood and sat inside.

“Well, are we going?” Leia asked, worriedly. She had seen already the Snowtroopers storming away at them, readying their blasters and cannons to aim at them.

“I got it! I got it!” Han said, hitting a button, blasting off a couple Snowtroopers away. He hit more buttons, desperate for the ship to take off. The ship didn’t comply, the engine humming only a little bit.

“Dang it!” he shouted, slamming the controls. “It’s not working! Where is that power cable?! Chewie, any ideas?”

The Wookie responded with a growl. No luck.

 “Han,” Leia said, warningly. “Vader…”

He was waiting in front of the ship, with more Snowtroopers. And someone very familiar.

Han’s eyes widen at the woman standing beside Vader. “You got to be kidding me,” he said, shuffling a hand through his hair.

 She couldn’t have…how…why?

Slowly, the group walked out of the ship, treading carefully down the hatch. They couldn’t, however, stop staring at the woman nearing beside Vader. What was going on?

“If you want to know the truth,” Vader said. “Your friend here has helped me in stopping you from leaving. In fact, she even provided the coordinates in finding out where you were.”

Leia gasped. “(Y/n)?” she said, shaking her head. “Why?” It never occurred to her that you would be the one to betray them.

You stood quiet, unsure how to answer.

“I had to…” you answered finally. “They…caught me during that mission on Sullust…Vader promised me my freedom…provided that I give them the coordinates…and I helped them.” You pulled a sleeve off of your uniform, showing a metal band. The metal band beeped, glowing off a red light. “If I didn’t comply within the days, this would kill me.”

“And released you are now,” Vader said. A Snowtrooper walked over to you and unleashed the cuff on you.
You wriggled your hand freely, seeing the red marks lined on your skin from the band. You lowered your head down, acting like you were ashamed.

“You know you could have told us,” Leia said. “We could have saved you. We could have helped you from this bargain…”

“It doesn’t matter anyway,” Han growled. “She’s dark as he is. Nothing but lies and bs she told us. It all adds up…”

“Han, what are you talking about?” Leia asked.

“Come on, Leia, remember all the problems we were having…my missing power cable…the secret passage’s breakdown…the generators acting a bit fuzzy…how she came back and within the next few days, she was acting funny…and look what she brought with her…and now how the walker oh-so broke off from the ropes, oh, I know that had to be you…your friend drugged…yeah, we found that pill inside her cup…knocked her right out.”

You nodded. “My intentions were that she wouldn’t get in the way of all this.”

“You backstabbing, betraying, lying little bi…”

He prepared to pounce at you but the Snowtroopers raised their blasters. Even Leia and Chewie held him back.

“Let me at her!” Han snapped, ready to attack, his feet prowling away toward you.

“Han! No, I can talk to her,” Leia offered. Chewie growled, agreeing with her.

“Are you kidding me? After what she’s done?” Han hissed. “After all we did for her…how she was bawling like a baby escaping the Empire…healing all her so-called wounds…I bet those were all fake…all that special treatment…it’s bs.”

“Aren’t you forgetting I’m a girl?” you snickered.

“I don’t care if you’re an alien or whatever,” Han said. “I won’t be afraid to take you down for what you done.”

“But now, you’ll all pay for the price for the Death Star,” Vader said. “Take them away!” He waved his hand at them and the Snowtroopers cuffed each of them, leading them off to the Imperial ship.

Leia shook her head at you. “You could have told us,” she said. She sounded very sorry for you. Mostly, hurt. Disappointed.

 “I’m sorry,” you mumbled. “It’s just…I couldn’t…”

Leia shook her head again and she was off. Han was next.

He glowered at you, eyeing you watching him. He dashed at you, prepared to attack once again but the Snowtroopers held him back. “Hope you get what you deserve,” he snapped, turning around now.

Chewie was next. He barked sadly at you, wondering just why would you do this. Leia and Han had been there for you when you bawled about the Empire capturing you, seeing some of your comrades fall…and now you practically lied to them about that. He was just so dejected.

“I’m sorry, Chewie,” you said. The Snowtroopers lead him away.

 It was C3PO now.

“Ms. (y/n), this is just so upsetting,” C3PO said. “If Master Luke had seen this, he sure be disappointed as well. And to believe he had feelings for you.”

 You frowned. “Feelings?”

“Certainly,” C3PO said. “He likes you. Why, even when you were breaking down about the Sullust mission, he felt it should have been him joining you alongside. He thought maybe if he had joined you, he could have saved you a bit from all the horrors you saw.”

You felt your heart shatter. “Luke…”

But before you could say anything else, they were lead away.

“Skywalker would not be your worrying,” Vader said, heading away as well. “The end of the bargain is complete. You are free of your chains.”

“Lord Vader, you’re not going to hurt him, are you?” you asked.

“Precisely not,” Vader said. “I would like to see this pilot myself. He certainly is a very skilled, intelligent man for blowing my Death Star. The trick is now to figure out how to lure him…”

You thought for a bit. You were sure that somewhere on Han’s ship, a course was set for Bespin…

“My lord, perhaps Bespin would be nice to visit?”

Luke journeyed throughout space, repeating the words of Ben Kenobi’s advice. He was supposed to be heading straight for Dagobah but he couldn’t get his mind off of (y/n).

The way she crashed into the snow…the way the walker got her…the horrors she had seen on Sullust of the comrades…how at last, she found a way back, crying…

He wanted to hug her right then and there. He felt so sorry for her. He blamed himself for what she’d went through. Leia, of course, told him it wasn’t his fault. Still, he felt that he should have joined her. He could have protected her then from what she saw.

 R2 beeped.

“I can’t get her out of my mind,” Luke admitted. “The way she fell down…and I never told her…I liked her…”

There was a fuzz on his coms. Luke hit a button.

“This is yellow leader, what’s going on?” he asked, wondering if it was one of the pilots.

The message continued to fuzz, screeching loudly. Finally, a voice broke out.

 “Luke…it’s us…” Han.

 “Han?” Luke asked. “What’s wrong?”

“Luke…” Leia. “Luke, whatever you do, don’t find us. The Empire has us. They’ll want you to come look for us. We’re ok though. Just find help.”

 “Where are you guys?”

A Wookie growled. “Master Luke,” C3PO tried to butt in.

“Kid, listen to what Leia said,” Han said. “Find help. We’ll be fine. Don’t let them get to you. And whatever you do…if you find (y/n)…don’t follow her.”

“(Y/n)? She’s all right?” Luke asked, happily. Maybe that whole crashing thing was an illusion or a dream...

 “Backstabbing, lying…”

 “Han!”

“What? It’s true, Leia. She is. Do you think it’s ok for him to continue to be in love with a traitor? Especially someone who pretty much lied all about what happened on Sullust? When in reality they let her go free after she promised to help in return?”

 “Han!”

“I’m just telling the truth. Sorry, kid, but the love of your life is a betrayer.”

“What do you mean? Is (y/n) all right? What’s going on?”

“Hey, what are you doing?” a gruff, rough voice growled. The message then went to static.

Luke sighed as his thoughts now clouded his mind. He clearly got the message but he wasn’t so sure as to what was going on. His friends were captured but what about (y/n)? Was she captured too? Yet, Han was saying that she betrayed them…that she lied all about what she had went through…and right after a couple of days of her returning, the Empire had recognized their location…

 He shook his head. “No…(y/n) wouldn’t never do that…she was on Sullust…all that stuff…she couldn’t…I don’t…”

 R2 beeped.

 “I saw her crash,” Luke said. “No, she can’t be…but…what about…I don’t…”

Ben’s words then entered Luke’s mind. Luke…you must complete your training first. Then, when you are ready, you can save your friends and help the woman you love…you can save her still…

 Luke frowned. “No…she wouldn’t of…she can’t…she’d lied to us? No…that’s not possible…”

Yet, deep down, he knew them to be true.

 And he cried.
